Nakuru CountyWednesday May, 21, 2025
The National Assembly Select Committee on Members' Services and Facilities led by Hon. Stephen Wachira Karani (Laikipia West) continued to undertake inspection visits to more constituency offices in Nakuru County today.
As they marked their second day in Nakuru County, the lawmakers got the opportunity to engage Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC) staff in Bahati, Gilgil and Naivasha Constituencies.
Just like in Rongai, Njoro, Nakuru Town West, Nakuru Town East Constituencies and the office of the County MP where the Committee previously visited, the PSC staff in Bahati, Gilgil and Naivasha constituencies continued to thank the Commission for the timely payments of their salaries.
"Hon. Members, in the past we would receive the monies quarterly, today it's coming monthly, we request that the same is done to Constituency office operation funds", said a member of staff in Bahati Constituency.
They however pointed out challenges with the Social Health Authority (SHA). They claimed that most of them were still experiencing difficulties in accessing services in the local health facilities.
Committee Chairperson Hon. Wachira assured them of the Government's efforts to ensure all Kenyans benefit from the Social Health Authority with no difficulties.
"Yes there has been issues since this is a new system, we have heard Kenyans complain about it, not only you, we however encourage those who have not registered with SHA to do so because many Kenyans are now benefiting, these challenges are being dealt with, please register and inform those in your constituencies who have not registered to do so, it is a good thing", said Hon. Wachira.
Hon. Elisha Odhiambo (Gem) and Hon. Augustine Mwafrika (Roysambu) emphasised on the Chairpersons assurance noting that the Commission was also concerned with their social economic welfare as they dedicate to serve Kenyans at the Constituency level.
"Everything that you have raised here will reach to the your employer, I mean the Commission, therefore you don't have to worry since we are here to listen, pick and come up with a report that will help deal with your issues", Hon. Elisha Odhiambo assured the staff in Gilgil Constituency.
Other issues raised include the need for salary increment, training and capacity building.
The Constituency staff in Naivasha thanked the Committee for sparing time out of their busy schedule to visit and listen to Constituency staff.
