Efforts to quell longstanding inter-community conflicts in Kilifi and Samburu counties have gained momentum following a two-day peace initiative that was led by the National Assembly Committee on Cohesion and Equal Opportunities.

The initiative was conducted in partnership with the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC).

The delegation, headed by Committee Chairperson Hon. Adan Yussuf Haji, wrapped up the mission in Malindi with a high-level meeting involving local stakeholders.

The engagement aimed at fostering peaceful coexistence among communities in the region.

“We have been in Kilifi for the past two days to gather firsthand information on the root causes of the ongoing conflict, which poses a significant security risk,” Hon. Haji stated.

He added: “We’re optimistic that the resolutions reached will contribute to lasting peace.”

NCIC Commissioner Dr. Danvas Makori and CEO Dr. Daniel Mutegi Giti also took part in the Kilifi visit, reinforcing the Commission’s commitment to promoting harmony in volatile areas.

Hon. Haji lauded NCIC’s collaboration, affirming Parliament’s continued support in peacebuilding efforts.

“Their role aligns perfectly with our mandate of fostering national cohesion,” he said.

At the same time, another team led by Kieni MP, Hon. Antony Wainaina and NCIC officials held similar peace talks at El Oadasio Hotel in Rumuruti, Laikipia County.

Commissioner Dorcas Kedogo led the NCIC team on the peace mission.

The initiative targeted reconciliation and long-term solutions to recurrent clashes.

The joint efforts are part of renewed national strategies to address deep-rooted tensions and promote unity across conflict-prone regions.
