The National Assembly, Special Funds Accounts Committee has directed the Chief Executive Officers of Athi Water Works Development Agency and the Water Sector Trust Fund to ensure timely compliance with the Office of the Auditor-General regarding outstanding audit queries.

Chaired by Hon. Fatuma Zainab (Migori), the Committee cautioned Water Sector Trust Fund CEO, Willis Ombai, over the failure to submit evidence related to anomalies in project implementation. The Committee instructed management to provide comprehensive details on the unsupported expenditure, which will be reviewed during the report-writing stage. Hon. (Dr.) Christine Ombaka (Siaya) emphasized the need for management to address auditorsโ€™ concerns to ensure compliance with required standards.

Athi Water Works Development Agency CEO, Eng. Joseph Kamau, was questioned about the stalled Gatundu Water and Sanitation Project. Hon. Majimbo Kalasinga (Kabuchai) inquired whether feasibility studies had been conducted before the project's implementation, while Hon. Joseph Cherorot (Kipkelion East) sought clarification on how residents of Gatundu would receive adequate water supply.

In response, Eng. Kamau stated that the agency is exploring alternative solutions, with current water production in the region at 16,000 cubic meters per day.

The Committee is set to draft a report with recommendations to be presented to the House.
