Hon. Lydia Haika (Taita Taveta) and Hon. Simon Kingara (Ruiru) have been re-elected unopposed as Chairperson and Vice Chairperson, respectively, of the Diaspora Affairs and Migrant Workers Committee.

The two Legislators, who previously held the same positions, will continue to steer the 15-member Committee.

In his remarks, Hon. Kingara thanked the Members for their unwavering support and urged them to extend the same commitment in carrying out the Committeeโ€™s mandate, to represent, protect, and promote the interests of Kenyans living and working abroad.

Hon. Haika also expressed her gratitude to the Members for their confidence in her leadership and for re-electing her unopposed.

She noted that since its formation, the Committee has been working quietly but steadily, laying a strong and stable foundation.

โ€œTwo years of preparation, consultation, and groundwork, the time has come to shift gears. We are no longer in the planning phase. We are ready to hit the road and begin the real work. Work that brings results,โ€ said Hon. Haika.

The Committee plans to prioritize legislation by fast-tracking the Migrant Workers Legislative Proposal, closely monitoring private recruitment agencies and working in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour and the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs to address the challenges faced by migrant workers and Kenyans in the diaspora, in a holistic and effective manner.
