The Chairperson for the Committee on Social Protection Hon. Alice Ng'ang'a (Thika Town), has requested the Liaison Committee to consider an additional allocation of Kshs. 16.958 billion to the Inua Jamii Programme.
According to Hon. Ng'ang'a, the additional funds will support the approximately 500,000 additional beneficiaries that have been enrolled in the programme from June 2024, increasing the beneficiaries to 1.76 million.
This leaves a funding gap of Kshs. 16.958 billion in the remaining four months of the financial year and the coming financial year.
"If this funding gap is not addressed through this Supplementary II Estimates, the elderly persons, orphans, vulnerable children, and persons with severe disabilities under the Inua Jamii programme will not receive any cash transfers from March to June 2025," said Hon. Ng'ang'a.
The Thika Town Legislator was presenting her Supplementary II Estimates before the Liaison Committee that is chaired by Hon. Gladys Boss (Uasin Gishu), as the committee received the final submissions from the Departmental Committee Chairpersons.
The Committee also heard from the Chairperson for Transport and Infrastructure Hon. George Kariuki (Ndia), who proposed among others, a reallocation of Kshs. 2 billion to the urban and rural low-volume seal roads, spot improvements and payment of pending bills; and Kshs. 5 billion for the construction of critical roads and payment of pending bills for ongoing projects.
The Committee on Agriculture and Livestock Chairperson, Hon. (Dr) John Mutunga (Tigania West), and Environment, Forestry Chairperson, Hon. Charles Kamuren (Baringo South) also presented their MDAs' Estimates.
The Liaison Committee is scheduled to table the report on the Supplementary II Estimates in the House tomorrow Wednesday, ahead of its consideration on Thursday and Friday this week, before Members break for the short recess.
Members were also briefed by the Parliamentary Budget Office (PBO) on the County Governments Additional Allocations Bill (National Assembly Bill No. 2 of 2025), which is scheduled for a Second Reading today.
