Nine sub-counties have been operationalized, with six more set to follow in Nairobi, the Security Committee was informed.

While appearing before the Administration and Internal Security Committee, chaired by Narok West MP Hon. Gabriel Tongoyo, the Principal Secretary for the State Department for Internal Security and National Administration, Dr. Raymond Omollo, stated that the process of operationalizing newly established administrative units had commenced.

โ€œThe State Department is working on a policy to guide the gazettement of new administrative units to ensure that once they are gazetted, they become operational without delay. This will address the current challenge where many units are gazetted but remain non-functional,โ€ said Dr. Omollo.

The Department is now seeking additional funding from the Committee to facilitate the operationalization of more units.

According to documents presented to the Committee by the PS, the development budget in Supplementary Estimate II includes an additional Ksh. 2.5 billion to support the National Police Modernization Project.

โ€œThis budget is aimed at implementing ongoing capital projects, which form part of the security sector reforms being undertaken by the State Department,โ€ said Dr. Omollo.

The Committee also held discussions with the State Department for Parliamentary Affairs and the Office of the Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service.
