The National Assembly Departmental Committee on Labour, chaired by Hon. Eric Muchangi (Runyenjes), today held a meeting with Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) and Independent Commissions under its purview to discuss the 2025 Budget Policy Statement (BPS).

During the meeting attended by Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi among other officials, there was a united call on expansion of Huduma Centres across the country.

Principal Secretary for the State Department for Public Service, Mr. Amos Gathecha, appealed to the committee to allocate more resources in the 2025 budget to facilitate the construction of Huduma Centres in underserved areas.

He emphasized the need to ensure government services are accessible to all Kenyans, including those in remote regions.

“Our focus is to have at least one Huduma Centre in each constituency across the country to ensure effective service delivery to all Kenyans,” Gathecha stated.

He, however, noted that insufficient budget allocations have hindered progress, citing the 2024/2025 budget, which had no allocation for the initiative.

To address this challenge, Gathecha urged Members of Parliament to collaborate with the Ministry by utilizing the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NGCDF) to construct Huduma Centres in their respective constituencies.

He highlighted the success of this approach in areas where MPs have already facilitated construction, adding that the Ministry has been equipping and ensuring the operationalization of such centres.

During the meeting, Hon. Muchangi raised concerns over alleged corruption cases in some Huduma Centres, calling on the Ministry to address the issue to maintain public trust.

“We have seen in the media alleged cases of corruption in various Huduma Centres, and this should be addressed to ensure all Kenyans get equal access to government services,” he said.

However, the claims were denied by Cabinet Secretary Hon. Muturi who accused Media of circulating misleading and false information to the public.

“I have made random visits to various huduma centres and interacted with the public and the feedback from public is that they are satisfied with services in our huduma centres,” Muturi Said.

Also appearing before the committee were representatives from the State Department for Labour and Skills Development, led by PS Mr. Shadrack M. Mwadime, and the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC).
